Landscape and amenity
PUBLIC ACCESS
The entire ground floor’s external landscaping is publicly accessible, serving the residents and connecting to the adjacent internal space
TREES AT ELEVATION
Elevated trees of appropriate species provide a striking contrast to the urban landscape of central Glasgow, offering a refreshing green oasis amidst the city’s dense environment.
AMENITY
High-quality, fully compliant social spaces will be provided along with adequate refuse and recycling facilities.
In order to achieve 5m2/bed, a minimum area of 2755m2 useable amenity is required for the 551 bed spaces. This is exceeded, with the provision of both external and internal spaces as shown here. Circulation space is not included in the proposed amenity provision.
SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
The design team have collaborated throughout the entire pre-application process to ensure that sustainability matters such as Energy Use; Whole LifeCarbon; and BREEAM are fully considered in the design. Key points as follows:
Combination of solar and inclement weather shading to provide an enlarged space for energy saving PV panels on the roof.
Omission of any fossil fuel within the MEP strategy. EVERY roof on the project will act as a blue-roof system that lessens the impacts on the existing drainage networks, and this rainwater will be utilised for internal services such as toilets.
Rain gardens have been designed into the Ground Level areas to reduce any reliance on below ground attenuation. The resulting building has been designed with a high regard to sustainability and will seek to achieve a top tier BREEAM rating. The development’s fossil-fuel-free and low energy approach will exceed Building Regulations, Glasgow City Councils energy efficiency standards and the renewable targets set by local planning policy and National Planning Framework-4.
